Dubai's rooftop water tanks take an enormous amount of punishment — direct sun exposure, extreme temperature swings, and constant contact with water. The concrete walls of tanks develop microscopic cracks over time as the structure thermally expands and contracts. These cracks allow water to seep out, leading to loss of water pressure, damp walls in the floors below, and in serious cases, structural damage to the tank slab and roof.
